Winter holiday at Warrnambool

We spent 3 days at Warrnambool. Exploring the city and the attractions of this shipwreck town.

CHEERS! WE'RE ON HOLIDAY!!!

And that's us watching the ocean at breakwaters... It was VERY cold!

Each year between May and June, Southern Right Whales return to the southern coast of Australia  to give birth, raise their young and commence the breeding cycle again - of the many thousands of Southern Right Whales on the planet, a small percentage ( typically about a dozen) arrive in the south west of Victoria.  We're here at Logans Beach, a vantage point that gives a good view from the shoreline.

Spot on! The whales have been spotted twice the week before we arrived. And today, the whales must have come in to welcome us! We saw 2 whales on the 29th June 2010, between 10.15am to 11.15am. It was really exciting. That's what we're here for...and the highlight of our trip.

Only a bit of it caught here in my cam...if you look hard enough...

We visited the Tower Hill, a dormant volcano, now a reserve and a haven of beautiful wildlife. We drove down into the volcano and back up again, watching emus, wallabies, etc...

We stayed in a quirky little cottage, eating only cup noodles, cookies and chips, and thoroughly enjoyed the trip...
